Our client has very strong interest in making this 10’ x 14’ room into a cozy, quiet and serious office. She will bring an existing loveseat from her former home as of today. I say that because by the time she places an order for the upholstery that might change. The sliding glass door opens out into the sunroom and at the opposite end there are two bi-folding doors that lead to a very nice closet. (By the way the previous owners had no creativity – doors were bi-folding doors or sliding doors.) And I pulled out my pen and pad to jot down her wish for Bedroom #2.
My preliminary design plan is to place the loveseat in front of that sliding glass doors to cut off the direct traffic pattern from the door to the sliders and to cut off the lovely sunroom view. You all are probably thinking “why, why?” My design strategy is to keep the curiosity, focus and concentration of the minds inside the library/office. And this is generally accomplished with a long piece of furnishing. My second preliminary design plan would add one chest of draws, one multi-purpose cabinet, a decorative, and small wastebasket, replace the rug with hardware wood floor, add a small arm chair. Following the second preliminary plan I move to the window treatments. And I am thinking of long curtains hanging on a motorized rod; operated with a small remote. For the third preliminary design strategy is to place the desk up against the wall adjacent to the entry door. Next, I select paint colors for the walls. I have the heavy neutral colors in my mind for this room. Paint color selection will be a piece of cake. I am looking forward to this completing this room in 8 to 10 weeks or maybe by the end of the summer if materials are out of stock.
